About the community

The Ideal

A country run entirely by its members — written, argued, reported and voted since December 2024.

The founding

Built in December 2024

Peter and Mason started The American Ideal because the political roleplay they wanted did not exist yet: serious about procedure, generous to beginners, and hostile to nothing except bad behaviour.

The idea was simple. Write the institutions first — a legislature that keeps a calendar, an executive that can be checked, a bench that can say no — then let the members fill them. Nothing about the country is scripted. What happens next depends entirely on who shows up and what they argue for.

More than a year on, the simulation runs on its own rhythm: sessions, campaigns, appointments, scandals, and a press corps that writes it all down.

Everything above is in character. USAI simulates a country; it does not represent one.

The cycle

A session, start to finish

  • Step one

    Something gets proposed

A member writes a directive or bill in the standard format and files it. Anyone can. You do not need a leadership role to start an argument.

  • Step two

    The floor takes it up

Committee first where it applies, then debate, amendments, and a recorded vote. Whips count, deals get made, and some good bills die anyway.

  • Step three

    The press files

Eagle Wire moves a story and officials get asked why they voted the way they did. The record outlives the session.

  • Step four

    The voters answer

Campaign season comes around, records are read back to their owners, and the seats change hands. Then it starts again.
